Download this game from Microsoft Store for Windows 10, Windows 8.1. See screenshots, read the latest customer reviews, and compare ratings for FreeCell Collection Free. There are three areas on the game board: the cells (upper left), the foundations (upper right), and the cascades. Click and drag a card (or a sequential stack of cards) to move it. To win the game, you must move all the cards, by suit, into the foundation, starting with the Aces. FreeCell is a solitaire game that was made popular by Microsoft in the 1990s. One of its oldest ancestors is Eight Off. In the June 1968 edition of Scientific American Martin Gardner described in his 'Mathematical Games' column, a game by C. Baker that is similar to FreeCell, except that cards on the tableau are built by suit instead of by alternate colors. Eight Off Free Cell is just like regular Freecell except, well.you get eight free cells instead of just. Cards in all rows that can change position are marked with blue squares as seen in the screen shot at the right of Microsoft FreeCell game number 14152. Thus the player can see all possible moves at a single glance.
So, for convenience the game allows you to move n+1 cards together, where n is the number of free cells. If you have an empty Tableau pile then you can move any card there. Move a single card onto a Free Cell. You can always move the top card of any Tableau Pile, Free Cell or Foundation onto a Free Cell if it's empty.

'As to strategy, here's what I might say: Don't dive into posting aces immediately, but concentrate on all the moves that get the columns in order. This usually will exposeaces unexpectedly. Try to empty out at least one column. Never, unless absolutelynecessary, leave less than two open spaces (free cells plus empty columns) unless you cansee your way out of it.'

31465 was also one of the last to be solved in the Internet Project.

(6) Laura Ross of Omaha, Nebraska played all 32,000 of the original deals, solving all but five of thedeals (8591, the impossible 11982, 13007, 31465, and 31938). She found617 and 1941 the most difficult of those she solved.
NoelDingman of North Creek, New York has played all of the deals from 1 tobeyond 80000, failing to solve only numbers 11982 and 57148.
(7) Two Japanese lists mentioned on HideyukiIchihara's excellent site:
[a] 169, 322, 915, 1941, 7825, 30057, 31729
[b] 1600, 1941
1941 is cited on both lists as well as Adrian's 'very difficult' list: is thisthe hardest solvable hand?
Ichihara's site has a completerecord of his solving efforts (numbers of tries for each deal and solution hints forthe hardest); he has finished the first 32,000 deals.
(8) Michael Keller's rejects from the 2000 he was assigned by Dave Ring -- I didn't solvethese until many months later:

Sincethese deals can be solved in standard FreeCell without using anyfreecells, even for momentary storage, they should be very easy tosolve when using the normal four freecells. They are notnecessarily easy to solve without freecells. We are confidentthat this is a comprehensive list: please do not write to me, as dozensof people have done, to tell me of deals we have left off, when theyare actually playing Relaxed FreeCell.
(10) Easy deals: Games #1 through #200 solvable with one freecell(Use FreeCell Pro to prohibit indirect FreeCell usage):

Try to empty out at least one column. Never, unless absolutelynecessary, leave less than two open spaces (free cells plus empty columns) unless you cansee your way out of it.'

Reports from users indicate that FCPro 6.5 works on Windowssystems through Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
FreeCell Pro 6.4 contained bug fixes which should eliminate manyof the memory problems ofearlier versions, and in particular prevent most cases of systemcrashes on Windows NT and2000 systems (special thanks to Hal Antonson and Jim Strasma forhelping Adrian diagnosethe problems). As always, FreeCell Pro should be regarded assomewhat experimental, and some bugs will still be present. The program isnow open source, allowing anyone to obtain and modify the source code.

FreeCellPro 6.5 was the final experimental Solver Evaluation version developedby Adrian Ettlinger, with two more solvers (by Shlomi Fish and TomHolroyd added). There is no documentation available forthis version, and we are not supporting it. Use at your owndiscretion. F8 triggers the Fish solver and F9 the Holroydsolver.

Note: fcpro.zip is a standard ZIP archive, and can be openedusing any unzipping program. After unzipping, be sure to leave all three files: fcpro6.exe,fcpro.hlp, and cards.dll inthe same folder. Do not move cards.dll to yourWindowsSystem folder.
Some users on Windows NT/2000 systems have reported that when theprogram is run forthe first time, the cards appear as narrow rectangles in the left sideof the programwindow. If this occurs, use Window/Card Size to set the card sizeto 71 by 96.
Note: The code for dealing the same numbers as Microsoft FreeCell is here.
Freecell Pro plays similarly to Microsoft FC and has the same gamenumbers. It does notrun under Windows 3.1. It has many options forcompatibility with MicrosoftFreeCell, including keyboard support for 0 and 9, optional double-clickto send cards tothe freecells, and won-lost statistics. FCPro also has many extrafeatures:
1) It records your solution in standard notation.
Note: After completing asolution you want tosave, use the Copy command (control-C) to copy the solution to theClipboard, where youcan then paste it into a text file or e-mail message. Do not rely onthe xxxxxlog.txtfile. We hope that the bugs which sometimes cause the logfile to be garbledhave been eliminated, but cannot be sure of this.
2) It has deals 0 to 8+ billion; 1 to 32000 are the same asthe standard Microsoft games (and the first million are the same asWindows XP). Dealsmay be selected from the ranges of 1 to 32000, one million, or8-billion-plus, at theuser's choice.
3) The number of freecells available can be set from zero(!) through seven.
4) It has a solver (written by Don Woods) built in.
5) It has undo back to the starting move, and redo up to the mostrecent move. Undomay be limited to one move or disabled entirely if the user prefers.
6) It saves your position in any deal to be returned to at any time.
7) It has a card finder which highlights all cards of the same rank.
8) It has supermove, which takesmaximal advantage ofempty columns when moving long sequences.
9) It has play aids (arrows and lines to show you quickly where columnscan be moved andhow much of them can be moved).
10) It has a Next Game command (F5) allowing you to play deals insequence without typingthe number of each deal.
11) It keeps track of how many attempts are made on each deal.
12) It has a Custom Game command allowing you to input any random deal.
FCPro was designed and programmed by Wilson Callan and AdrianEttlinger. Michael Keller obtained Jim Horne's dealing code and Don Woods' solvercode, and helped tobeta test FCPro.
